Welcome to Dicing With Life
We are a volunteer-led community games hub in the heart of the Mercury Mall, Romford. Since 2017, we have used tabletop gaming and creative play to bring people together, boost mental wellbeing, and tackle loneliness across Havering, East London, and Essex.
Whether you want to drop in for a game, build new skills, or simply find a friendly space to sit and chat, there is a place for you here.
What We Do
-
A Safe, Welcoming “Third Space”: Our store provides a low-pressure, sensory-friendly environment outside of home or work. It is designed to be fully inclusive, especially for neurodivergent residents, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and anyone feeling isolated.
-
Play & Wellbeing: From casual board games to cooperative tabletop adventures, our structured sessions offer a comfortable way to socialise, reduce stress, and make genuine friends.
-
NHS & Community Partnerships: We work closely with local GP surgeries, NHS social prescribers, Havering MIND, and local charities like Sycamore Trust. We provide primary care teams with a non-clinical referral route to help residents improve their mental health and confidence.
-
Volunteering & Skills: We empower local people through hands-on volunteer roles, helping individuals gain transferable confidence and accredited qualifications in first aid, food safety, customer service, and safeguarding.
-
Community Workshops: We run tailored storytelling and gamification sessions for schools, councils, and youth groups to explore teamwork, resource management, and budgeting through play.
How We Keep Our Doors Open
As a non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), every single pound we raise goes straight back into supporting our community. We generate income through:
-
Small table fees for organised play sessions.
-
Tabletop games, accessories, and refreshment sales in our Romford shop.
-
Commissioned workshops and grant funding opportunities
Our Hardship Guarantee: Money should never stand in the way of connection. Thanks to our dedicated Hardship Fund, our sessions are completely free for anyone who needs financial support. Ask one of our friendly volunteers for more information.
